The combination of running a business and your life and preparing for tax time can drive some people into a slight panic. But no need to get stressed if you are prepared. Now is the time to start organizing all documents required to file your tax return.

Also, consider going completely digital this year. Start by scanning in your paper receipts and other source documents and organizing them within a dedicated online folder. There are many free services like Google Drive you can use for this. If you are one of our clients you also have access to a secure portal where you can save your documents for free. Give us a call if you have not set this up or need help. Then, all you’ll need to do is upload your digital documents for our team. If you are using our secure portal there in nothing you will need to do.

The checklist below will help you start to compile the basics:

  • Copy of last year’s return (for first-year clients; include spouse’s return if applicable)
  • Paperwork for dependents, including SSNs and DOBs
  • All proof of income, including W-2s and 1099s
  • List of deductions
